Let's get it started in here!

Officially, week one is done! I must say that moral is high. I thoroughly enjoyed my first week at Wilmington Area School with Mrs. Joanna McKelvey and her students. I got to be apart of their 3 day long mid-winter convention trip. Being on this trip gave me a lot of time to get to know her students in a more informal setting. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to see me in a fun environment as well.

During this trip, I got to experience for the first time a trampoline park. Needless to say, I definitely felt older the next day after jumping and climbing around for 2 hours.

I was then ready to get into the classroom and see how the students operate on a day to day basis. One thing that I know will be a difference to them is my use of bellwork. When the students come in now, they just sit and talk until attendance is done being taken. I believe that the use of bellwork will be a shock to them at first, but once it is operationalized, they will take to it pretty easy and realize that the classroom will be run more bell to bell than what they are currently used to.

One thing that I love though, is the relationships between Mrs. McKelvey and her students. I hope that in my professional career, I am able to build the same relationships with my students and be there to make a difference.

Lets get ready to start teaching on this Ag Ed Journey!!!

  1. Dylan,
Glad to see you are having fun.

For your weekly blogs, I challenge you to create a structure that allows you to identify on big lesson a week that you want to remember in your first year of teaching.

  2. Hi Dylan!

It seems like you are off to a good start this semester. A 3 day trip to Midwinter Convention sounds like a lot of fun. Did any of your students compete at Farm Show throughout the week? I look forward to reading about your successes with bell work going forward.
    You got this!

    1. Actually, Wilmington had two square dance teams that competed and both got blue ribbons as well as an FFA Demonstration Team that placed 6th in the state!
