Strategies, Objectives, and Success
The articles for this week really got me thinking about the type of instruction that I am going to deliver. I think the biggest thing that stood out to me was using action-measurable verbs when writing objectives. Using these higher level thinking verbs not only allow the students more room for growth when you are working towards that goal, but also keeps the expectations clear to the students. Another thing that I picked up on this week was the the idea of doing a demonstration with your students when trying to present a new skill instead of just telling them what to do. This way you are covering at least two learning styles and students will have a greater understanding of what needs to be accomplished and how to do the skill on their own the correct way. One idea that I pulled that I see a lot of use for in my classroom is a buzz group. A buzz group is a small group that is focused on coming up with a solution to a problem. I like this because they are using all of their ideas to work towards one goal.
When talking about objectives, I think that I need to be mindful of them and transfer those over to AEE 413 when I am thinking about program planning as well. I want to be goal driven throughout my entire career whether that is looking at a single class period or the program as a whole. With the idea of demonstrations, AEE 349 and 350 have given us so many opportunities to sharpen our skills in an Ag Mechanics setting and allows us to have that experience to pass on to our students.
I have this short article here that is talking about the importance of using higher order thinking skills and how we can use the higher levels in Bloom's to allow us to achieve those goals. I think this relates back to the action measurable verbs from the NAAE article and really ties it all in together.
